WHO DEVELOPED THE FIRST CRYOTHERAPY SAUNA?

Whole body cryotherapy was first developed by Dr. Yamaguchi in Japan in the late 1970’s. 

The benefits of Whole Body Cryotherapy have been studied and refined in Europe since then.

Initially studied for treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other chronic medical inflammatory conditions, Dr. Yamaguchi discovered Cryotherapy treatment significantly reduce the pain, soreness and inflammation his patients usually experienced during during joint movement because the decrease of temperature of the body’s exterior led to the immediate release of endorphins and a decrease in sensitivity to pain and discomfort.

IS IT USED BY PRO ATHLETES?

Yes.  Many Olympic, professional, collegiate and even high school athletes are taking advantage of the natural edge gained from Whole Body Cryotherapy.

The Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, and many other professional teams provide access to a cryosauna for their players to use before and after games.

HOW DOES WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY WORK?

Whole Body Cryotherapy uses ultra-cooled nitrogen gas application to lower the client’s skin temperature 30 degrees Fahrenheit for between 1 and 3 minutes.

Thermoreceptors in the skin send messages to the brain and central nervous system and the body goes into “Survival Mode” by sending hyper-oxygenated and nutritious blood via vasoconstriction to the body’s vital organs in its core.

After exiting the ultra-cooled environment, the body begins the warm to its natural temperature and vasodilation occurs, sending the oxygenated and nutritious blood back out to the body’s periphery.

This process provides the body with extra nutrients, rids the body of toxins, produces collagen, and activates the body’s natural cell regeneration cycle to produce newer, healthier cells.

WHAT IF I HAVE CLAUSTROPHOBIA?

The cryosauna is open at the top so the client’s head is completely exposed and the client is in constant communication with the technician during the entire Cryotherapy treatment process.

The door is never locked and the client can exit the cryosauna at any time if they feel any distress or discomfort.

DO I NEED TO SHOWER BEFORE OR AFTER?

No, this is a dry cold and your skin remains dry. The treatment will take just 3 minutes.

WILL I BE ABLE TO TOLERATE THE COOL TEMPERATURES OF CRYOTHERAPY?

Cooled Nitrogen gas is very dry, so the feeling is not comparable to very cool water — it actually feels less uncomfortable and cold for this reason.

The process of Cryotherapy never freezes the skin or soft tissue; the sensation of coldness is what actually drives the systemic response

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER COMPLETING THE CRYOTHERAPY TREATMENT?

During each cryotherapy treatment the body releases endorphins, which supply your body with a natural source of energy and invigoration.

This endorphin energy will last 6 to 8 hours after the session.

The short-term cold therapy stimulates the release of endorphins also triggers analgesia (immediate pain relief). The release of endorphins can also make you feel good and energetic.

Most clients report a better night’s sleep after just one session! 

Like any new regimen, consistency is important to achieve the most beneficial results possible.

Cryotherapy effectively decreases pain and increases ability. You will also burn 500 to 800 calories per treatment due to the sharp increase in metabolism.

CAN I BECOME SICK OR CATCH A COLD FROM CRYOTHERAPY TREATMENT?

No — actually the response from the body to the ultra-cooled environment of Cryotherapy raises the body’s core temperature temporarily.

The detoxification, cellular regeneration and immune system reset process can actually assist the body in recovering from an illness.

WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO WEAR SOCKS, GLOVES AND UNDERGARMENTS?

Gloves, socks and undergarments are worn to protect these areas from becoming too cold.

The body’s response to the ultra-cooled environment is to send blood from the body’s periphery to the vital organs in the body’s core; when blood is taken from the limbs and extremities, these areas cool down more rapidly than normal, so protective materials such as sicks and gloves are necessary to ensure the clients comfort and safety.

IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION FOR CRYOTHERAPY TREATMENT?

It is recommended that clients be at least 16 years of age with parental consent to get a Whole Body Cryotherapy treatment.

For clients who are between 14 and 15 years of age, a physicians release and parental consent form are required for Cryotherapy treatment.

TO WHAT EXTENT HAS WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY BEEN RESEARCHED & STUDIED?

Researches in the United States and Europe have been researching, studying and developing Whole Body therapy since its beginnings in 1978.

WHO SHOULD GET THE TREATMENT?

Most clients are not world-class athletes, but everyday people who exercise and want to feel better and recover faster.

Elite athletes and celebrities who use Cryosauna include Floyd Mayweather, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Demi Moore, Mandy Moore, Kate Moss, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston, Tony Robbins, Joe Rogan, C.J. Wilson of Texas Rangers, Luke Walton of Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks, with a number of them saying that they feel better and stronger after treatment.

IS IT SAFE?

The hazards that accompany cryotherapy are very minimal — protective gloves, socks and slippers are worn (along with undergarments) to protect against frostbite. During a session, a client’s head is completely exposed to allow for constant communication with the technician; a session can be terminated anytime by simply opening the door.

WHY HAVEN’T I HEARD MORE ABOUT CRYOTHERAPY?

Extreme cold has been used to treat inflammation for centuries – think of athletes icing sore muscles. Modern applications to treat rheumatoid arthritis began during the 1970s in Japan.

Several clinical studies have been conducted in Europe, where the practice is more common.

IS THE NITROGEN APPLICATION OF CRYOTHERAPY DANGEROUS?

Absolutely not.

Nitrogen gas is a non-toxic natural gas. The atmosphere that we breathe is composed of 78% Nitrogen, 20% oxygen and 2% other elements.

Nitrogen gas is utilized in Cryotherapy for its stable properties at very low temperatures.

HOW DOES CRYOTHERAPY COMPARE TO AN ICE BATH?

The results and benefits seen from Cryotherapy are not seen in application of an ice bath.

After 15 minutes in the extremely unbearable coldness of an ice bath, the body’s surface temperature does not even reach freezing whereas during Cryotherapy the skin temperature can get to below freezing in just 2 to 3 minutes.

This cooling below freezing temperatures is what triggers the system response of the brain and central nervous system and is absolutely necessary to in obtaining the benefits of cryotherapy.

CAN I EXERCISE & WORKOUT DIRECTLY BEFORE OR AFTER CRYOTHERAPY TREATMENT?

Yes and No!

You can workout before getting a cryotherapy treatment because you can obtain great muscle and joint recovery  due to the anti-inflammatory benefits of cryotherapy. Only think you need to be aware is that before entering the Cryo Sauna, make sure you have no body condensation that will freeze when exposed to below freezing temperatures. Also make sure you do not have any piercings or jewelry exposed

If you choose to workout after your cryotherapy treatment you can expect a higher pain tolerance, more energy, more range of motion, great flexibility and higher abilities in general.

HOW OFTEN CAN I GET CRYOTHERAPY?

Depending on the condition of treatment, you should initially take 5 – 10 treatments in close succession to maximize your results.

After the initial 10 sesssions, and for best results it is recommended that client’s get Cryotherapy 2 to 3 times per week with 5 -7 consecutive treatments once per month.

It is safe to do up to 2-3 cryotherapy treatments per day but is only recommended for those in heavy training or rehabilitation.

WHO SHOULD NOT GET CRYOTHERAPY TREATMENT?

If you have experienced any of the following health conditions, it is advised not to obtain Cryotherapy treatment: Pregnancy, severe Hypertension (Blood Pressure> 180/100), acute or recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, cardiac pacemaker, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident, uncontrolled seizures, Raynaud’s Syndrome, tumor disease, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, fever, severe anemia, infection, cold allergy, acute kidney and urinary tract diseases.

Any client with history of cardiac disease with the past 6 months will be required to have a physicians statement clearing them to get Whole Body Cryotherapy treatment.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH RISKS OF WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY?

Whole Body Cryotherapy treatment has minimal risk.

Blood pressure fluctuations during the treatment by up to 10 points systolic, allergic reaction to the extreme cold temperatures (rare), and activiation of some viral conditions (such as cold sores, etc) due to the stimulation of the immune system can occur but are unlikely.
